How Far is Too Far? Tales of Caution from Altered Sleep to Dentoalveolar Limits

ANNUAL JOHN J. CUNAT CDE EVENT

Two main topics will be covered during this lecture day. We will start the journey by assessing and questioning the dental professional's role in screening, diagnosing, and managing sleep-disordered breathing. Then, the speaker will discuss our clinical uncertainty when attempting Class II malocclusion camouflage. In both topics, the speaker will challenge some current approaches and attempt to shed some light on the conflicting information that we face daily.

Although ideally clear answers are sought, the reality of clinical practice is like playing poker more than chess. There is an element of knowledge in stocking the chances, but luck plays a major role.

Benefits of Attending / Learning Objectives:

At the completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Feel comfortable screening patients at high risk for sleep disorder breathing
  • Understand the current best policies for managing sleep disorder breathing cases
  • Realize how unpredictable is the camouflage response of Class II camouflage cases
  • Understand the importance of continuously assessing the skeletal and dentoalveolar responses of their Class II camouflage cases

Intended Audience

Specialists, hygienists, dental assistants & front office staff would benefit from

this presentation
