Airway Concerns in the Ortho & Pediatric Dental Patient 6-8pm, Wed, May 21 via live Zoom Airway health and breathing modality are intimately tied to growth and development of dento-facial structures, bruxism, sleep apnea and hyperactivity disorders, caries susceptibility, and nitrous oxide effectiveness in the pediatric patient. We will discuss cause and effect of orthodontic malocclusions, timing of treatment/referral, and identifying these underlying causes in children and adults. As dentists, our role in identifying problems and referring to the medical specialists has changed in the past several years and it is our responsibility to the patient to refer any suspected airway health concerns to the medical specialists. We will discuss how to be most effective with this type of referral using imaging reports and referral letters. Learning Objectives:
Guest Faculty: Helen Dusel, DDS, is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist practicing atUniversity Pediatric Dentistry.She graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and completed her AEGD at UB after dental school. She then completed her Pediatric Dental residency at UB/Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. She enjoys every aspect of pediatric dentistry with special attention to behavioral management during in-office operative procedures. Andrew Dusel, DDS is a practicing Orthodontist and partner at OrthodontistsAssociates of WNY and Volumetric Craniofacial Imaging Center (VCIC). He is also the team orthodontist on the Craniofacial Team at Oishei Childrens Hospital along with his partner Dr. Steven Hietanen. He treats patients of all ages, with a special focus on early orthodontic treatment and 3D/airway centric orthodontics. He also enjoys treating complex surgical orthodontic cases. He graduated from University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 2007 and completed a 3 year residency at Montefiore Medical Center inNew York City where he had extensive training in craniofacial orthodontics and surgical orthodontics.
