Emerging Risk Factors of Oropharyngeal Cancer: Chronic Inflammation & HPV Infection

The overwhelming majority of oropharyngeal cancers are attributable to tobacco. However, despite the significant decline in all types of tobacco use since 1965, the incidence of oropharyngeal cancers has been increasing steadily since 1973 and the age at diagnosis is becoming younger in the US. Similar trends are observed in many parts of the world. This presentation will discuss the evidence supporting the roles of chronic inflammation and HPV infection on oropharyngeal cancers as well as their interactions with smoking.

Benefits of Attending

This course will provide concise background about emerging new risk factors of oropharyngeal cancers.

  1. Discuss the roles of HPV infection and chronic inflammation on oropharyngeal cancer
  2. Answer questions from your patients and give recommendations
  3. Improve your skills on diagnosis and treatment planning
